Is it possible to become a better person using hypnosis? Absolutely but you have to be clear in your mind as to what you mean by better.
Hypnosis can be an excellent tool for personal development. It can help you achieve any goal you have in life, like better health, changing bad habits, and increasing your confidence.
And if you could improve in just a few areas, that would lead to greater happiness but not necessarily a better person.
To be a better person, you need more than a few positive qualities.
You have to move beyond the basics of personal development to a more profound character change.
Yes, character change because character development involves profound changes in your self-concept.
We’re talking about rewiring your subconscious mind with new beliefs and behaviors that can hugely change your life for the better.
Hypnosis can alter your behavior dramatically, but changing yourself is tricky.
Let’s take someone who has a habit of procrastinating and has difficulty getting things done.
Using hypnosis, this person can get their procrastination under control and start completing tasks, one by one.
But if he doesn’t see himself as a highly productive person, he will never be happy with the results he gets.
Let’s say your goal is to lose weight?
You can use hypnosis to help you eat slower and avoid overeating at meals and snacks. But if you are following a weight loss plan – and regaining the weight you lost – because deep down inside, you believe that losing weight is impossible.
This is what I mean by character change.
The real issue here is your identity and how it affects your ability to achieve goals and overcome challenges in life.
Yes, you can change your body, and you can also change your ability to think better.
But until all the parts of your identity come into alignment and harmony, it won’t matter what you do to one aspect.
It won’t matter how many self-help books you’re reading or therapy or hypnosis training you are doing.
It’s all useless unless what is inside is aligned and moving in the same direction.
So, if you want to change your behavior, you should first change your identity
If you want to improve your ability to think, you should first make your identity match that ability.
If you want to be more creative, you should first make your identity match that ability.
If you want self-betterment, you should first make your identity match up with being a better person.
The relevant parts of your identity that control how good you are at something determine how people, in general, perceive the quality of what it is that you do or who you are.
If you want to change the quality of something in your life, including yourself, you must make your identity match what you want to become.
But you don’t know how to do this, do you? No worries, it’s simpler than you may believe.
Self-hypnosis and mental images are the best combinations
“Personality is a system of ideas that must be consistent with each other, or be rejected (not believed).”Prescott Lecky Author, Professor and pioneer of the Self-Help movement
The mental image is not a new idea in psychology. Still, it took a plastic surgeon, Dr. Maxwell Maltz, to recognize how you and I can use this mental image to our best benefit
In his book PSYCHO CYBERNETICS, he refers to the subconscious mind as a servo-mechanism or a smart guided missile that works by using feedback to find its way to the target.
The mental image is the target.
Today we would say your subconscious is like an Artificially Intelligent software suite, and guess what it is.
And whether your subconscious is A. I. or that’s just the best working model we have, Dr. Maltz’s observations are still as valid as ever.
- Subconscious motives require clear-cut goals. Self-image filters goals and modifies them as inconsistent ones are rejected by the subconscious.
- To achieve better results, change your self-image.
- The importance of imagination cannot be overstated
- Mental practice is as powerful as actual practice
This little brief does no justice to Dr. Maltz’s work, and I would advise you to pick up a used copy of his old book.
Although the new version is also good. The owners of the rights to the book decided to remake the book to fit their salesy (Oh, my word, not another golf story) image.
But let’s cover these four points above.
Your Self-image filters goals and modifies them according to whether they are consistent or inconsistent. Conflicting goals are rejected by the subconscious.
This is an essential point that seems to be overlooked in our self-help age.
We are often bombarded with how we should change this or that. Eat better, take 10 000 steps per day, and on and on.
But if you have a self-image that is anchored in being lazy and eating whatever you want, how will these goals fit with your self-image?
Just think to yourself: Which of my self-images support my new habits, and which are they in conflict?
To achieve better results, change your self-image.
This is the whole point of the book, psyche cybernetics.
To change your self-image into something that can help you achieve more. Because when the subconscious has a better image of itself, it can relate this with your conscious mind. Then a significant change is on the horizon.
It cannot be overstated how important imagination is.
This is the pivotal point on which everything hinges. Can you imagine yourself as the person you want to be? If you can’t do this one action, mental practice is impossible for you.
Oh, you can daydream all you want. But there’s a Galaxy of difference between thinking of something and thinking from it as if it was real.
Mental practice is as powerful as actual practice.
This is another critical point that you can use to create your own conditions for success. You can do actual practice and mental practice, and together you will make better, more rapid progress.
But what most people miss is that you don’t need to have any fundamental skills or experience to practice mental imagery.
In fact, you might be a day one beginner in skills, but you can use your imagination to practice and learn.
Did you catch that?
Using mental practice works even if you have no idea what or how to practice. If you are working on improving yourself, this bit of information is gold.
Because all you need then is to make up a self-image you agree with and feel it as really happening. Even put the new image to work doing something you like.
Use Self-hypnosis to empower the correct self-image
The combination of your imagination and mental exercise is the working equation. But you need some gas and glue to make it all work how you want it to.
Self-hypnosis will help you create and strengthen a strong self-image.
Because in hypnosis, you are already in direct communication with your subconscious mind. You are also more relaxed than at any other time of the day.
From here, you can use hypnosis to visualize yourself being who and what you want to be.
Now make this practice a habit, and in about 60 days, you will see the other you looking back at you in the mirror. This is the way you can improve yourself (DIY) style.
Recap and recommendations
For a successful long-term change of yourself, you need to change your self-image. Hypnosis can help, but you have to want it to help, and that all goes back to the self-image.
To change your self-image, first, pick the type of person you want to be. (you can add on new aspects to yourself as often as you need) then get somewhere you can relax and imagine becoming that person.
Use self-hypnosis to help you get past your own conscious doubt and enjoy your personal time reprogramming yourself.
Repeat two or three times a day for 60 and more days.
