This exercise is a way to install the ability to drop into a hypnotic trance on command.
Getting comfortable is the first step, but not so comfy that you fall asleep. Make sure you aren’t lying in your bed because the subconscious mind will associate this with sleeping.
Close your eyes and count backward from 10 to 1 while breathing deeply through your nose.
Counting backwards is associated with a downward feeling for most people. If you wish to add to the experience, imagine yourself going down an elevator or stairway.
The next step is to perform progressive relaxation exercises. Imagine a relaxing sensation beginning at the top of your head and working your way down to your feet.
Hurrying up and relaxing do not go well together, so don’t rush through this part.
Feel that relaxed sensation on your face, shoulders, and arms. Then, as it moves down your leg, let it gradually reach your feet. It’s okay to stop here, but if you want to take your practice deeper, go back to your face.
Now focus your attention on your scalp. Then think to yourself, relax. Let that word linger in your mind and give that body part a few seconds to soften.
You will literally feel that part of your body relaxing like being released from a vice grip.
Do the same thing on your forehead next. Next, move to your eyelids, then your cheeks. Finally, follow the same steps for your mouth and throat.
By the time you’ve done all this, your body should be in a trance-like state. This is because the body remembers how to repeat an experience once it has had it.
All you need to do is install a trigger. This will be the first of many post-hypnotic suggestions.
It is as easy as connecting your thumb and index finger on your off-hand and thinking to yourself.
“You are now in hypnosis. Remember how this feels.”
Repeat that statement a few times, but do not chant it like a mantra. Instead, slowly and deliberately say it to yourself.
When you’ve finished programming, repeat to yourself.
“I will come back to full waking conscious mind awareness on one, two, three…” then snap your fingers a few times by your ear and come all the way out.
And that’s it.
You’ve now taken yourself into hypnosis
Then using some post-hypnotic suggestions, you gave yourself two triggers.
Going into trance, take a breathe and press your thumb and index finger of your off-hand together and think, “Remember.”
Then coming out, think to yourself, “1,2,3,” and snap your fingers a few times by your ear.
A few things to keep in mind
Number# 1 Practice often
You just installed a mental program to give yourself access to the most potent personal force on Earth. Please don’t allow it to fade away. If you don’t use this ability, you will lose the ability.
Number #2 Closing your eyes while going into trance is optional, but boy, does it help you go deeper.
Not only does closing your eyes as you think “remember” help take you deeper. But I would also advise you to pick up a heavy sleeping mask to go one step further. So if you have trouble getting deep enough with closed eyes alone, try putting the mask over your eyes. You may find that helps even more than closing them.
Do not underestimate what you’ve just done. This is hypnosis.
And you can now buy a Hypnosis script, record it and play it back to yourself while in your self-induced trance and it would work.
But please remember that there is no substitute for practicing regularly. The best way to learn anything new is through repetition. And this is especially true with the hypnotic suggestion. As powerful as
Therapeutic suggestions are they, need to be repeated for its full effect to be realized.
Going beyond progressive muscle relaxation hypnosis
I know what you’re thinking.
That exercise was lovely, and you get that it was hypnosis. And you can even see the value of putting it together with some scripts or even positive suggestions like affirmations.
